Winona-Ryder
Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her Winona in honor of the town she grew up in. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into a Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Her half-siblings are younger, Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder as well as her entire family moved to Mendocino County in California at the age of seven. Ryder was only seven years old. There were no electric lights. Ryder was a prolific reader due to the lack of television. Ryder began taking acting classes when Ryder was 12years old in the American Conservatory Theatre. In 1986, she got her first major-screen appearance in the film Lucas at just 15 years old. Ryder suffered bullying in the high school. Ryder was hopeful that her work as an actress would bring about change. However, that didn't happen. Still, she pursued her dream. Ryder made her breakthrough with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in 1988. Ryder kept playing successful roles in a variety of films. In 1993 she received two nominations for Academy Awards. One of was for her performance as a character in The Age of Innocence.
